Nose ring

Boxing is one of the most dangerous sports. As such, if you have piercings in any place in your body, you might end up hurting yourself or your opponents. So, what can you do about it, and can boxers have earrings? This article will explain and demonstrate everything you need to know.

Boxing with a nose piercing—isn’t something you should do because if you get hit in the nose, it’ll hurt more and be more dangeorus than without it. As a result, remove all piercings while boxing, especially prior to sparring or competing. But, remove it even while practicing on the punching bag.

Boxers should not pierce themselves anywhere, if they take their jobs seriously. I’ve seen a few people experiencing the same issue, returning their piercings after taking them off for the boxing session.

Likewise, it can close up rather quickly for most people. Thus, the process of putting the earrings back on—will be more painful than what you may think. It’s not as simple as taking it off and returning it like nothing happend.

Now, think of what’s going to happen if your nose starts to bleed while sparring. Do you think it’ll be comfortable to return the nose ring? Of course not. Your entire training process—will be more difficult than to those without piercings.

As such, if you’re a professional boxer, it’ll be best to stay away from piercings, especially on the face.

Can a boxer have piercings?

Having a piercing can be painful, if you’re doing any martial art. In the following sections of this article, we’ll also discuss different martial arts and whether you can wear a pierceing while doing them. If you’re boxing, you might find it even more difficult.

A boxer can’t wear his piercings while fighting because they may provide danger to both the wearer and the opponent. As a result, wearing any type of body accessories—is illegal while fighting. You can have the piercings themselves; but you must take them off during a fight, spar, or any type of competition.

No type of body piercing and no body accessories will be permitted to be worn during a Bout.

Hence, if you’re trying to become an elite boxer, it’ll be best to stay away from piercings, as you’ll have a difficult time dealing with them. There have been numerous stories about difficlties returning the earrings themselves onto the body after a tough fight.

You can probably imagine the pain invovled with returning your nose ring on a bleeding nose. Indeed, it’ll be highly difficult doing so. Additionally, the hole might close after a few hours of not having it on. So, during a professional match, it’s likely to close.

The short story is to stay away from piercings, if you’re trying to become a professional boxer.

The dangers of boxing with piercings

Thus far, we’ve discussed why you should not wear piercings if you’re constantly boxing. However, some might not be as convinced yet, as they don’t know the real dangers yet. That’s what this section is for, to shed light on the risks of wearing such accessories on your body or face while boxing.

if you wear piercings while boxing, numerous possibble scenarios can occur; the opponent’s thumb can get stuck after a punch, and yea, it happened. Moreover, the hole might tear even more, which will take more time to heal, and the accessory can get stuck in the opponent’s hair or clothing, a painful experience for both sides.

When I research the topic of this section, I was always grossed when I read a possible scenario, and that’s good. Because of that, I now know the dangers of wearing nose rings or earrings while boxing, or doing any martial art for that matter.

Indeed, your piercing can get caught on the opponent’s hair or clothes. What do you think will happen next? Now that I have your imagination rolling, I want you to avoid wearing such accessories while boxing.

You can seriously hurt yourself or others around you. And, if you end up injuring the pierced spot, it’ll take more time to heal, causing you not to wear jewlery in that spot for a long time.

Martial arts you can do with piercings

While boxing isn’t one of the best martial art to do with piercings, some may be more suitable. However, a good rule of thumb is to come as your nautral state to any MA class. By following that, you’ll cover yourself from future injuries and dangers from having such accessories on yourself.

Here’s a list of martial arts you can do with piercings:

  • Tai chi
  • Qigong
  • Judo
  • Wrestling
  • BJJ

Although I listed them as fighting styles you can do with earrings, it’ll be best to avoid wearing them altogether. While they can be beautiful (and they are, for my opinion), you’ll be endangering yourself and others by wearing piercings.

Everything that includes grappling is safter than striking. Hence, kicks and pucnhes are out of the equation. Because of that, BJJ, wrestling, and judo, are on the list.

Should I remove my piercings while boxing?

You should remove your piercings while boxing to avoid injuries in the nose, ears, or anywhere you wear your jewlery. By wearing them, you’ll be risking injuring yourself and others, as they can get stuck in the piercing or hit the spot on your body, which will be more painful and bloody than a regular hit.

It’s always best practice to go for the safe route, which includes removing all body and facial accessories. You can even hurt yourself when punching the heavy bag, as you never know what will happen.

Of course, wearing nose rings when boxing—is illegal. You can get disqualified by showing up to a spar or tournament with such accessories.

Likewise, most boxing and other martial arts gyms don’t allow wearing piercings, as they’re aware of how dangerous they might be. It’ll be best to stay away from it, as you want to keep yourself as healthy as possible.

Final words

To end this article, I want to emphasize the dangers of wearing piercing, especially new ones, while boxing. The last thing you want is to injure yourself and the opponent because you decided to pierce your face.

Really, many things can happen, and already have happened, to martial arts trainees with facial accessories. That’s why most martial arts and boxing gyms won’t let you in if you have piercings.

Thus, be sure to take off all your body and facial accessories before entering your session.
