How to Clean Your Muay Thai Shorts (6 Easy Steps)

How to Clean Muay Thai Shorts

Alright. So you want to clean your Muay Thai shorts. However, you also don’t want to ruin them, which, by the way, can easily happen. To avoid that from happening, I’ve decided to write this article. While it also allowed me to learn more about proper cleaning methods, it’ll allow you to follow each step and make sure you don’t make the same mistakes I made.

I’ve spent more money than I’d like to admit on Muay Thai shorts, and let me tell you something, it’s not really fun. I would like to prevent that from happening to you and me again. The best way we can prevent that from happening is by reading this article, which is going to help you avoid facing such issues for good.

I’ve also made a quick video that shows how to clean your Muay Thai shorts with ease. I also encourage you to watch it after you finish reading this article, to deepen your understanding.

How to Clean Muay Thai Shorts (The Right Way)

So without further introduction, let’s dive into the first step.

Step #1 – Pre-Treat Stains

The first step is to pre-treat stains. When you sweat a lot, like when you train in Muay Thai (just a random example) what you wear will begin wearing down. There might be stains that are accelerating this process, which you want to detect and remove as soon as possible.

That’s why it’s best practice to clean your shorts right after your training session. If you don’t, all the moisture and stains will stay on the shorts for good, wearing them down further and making them less durable.

The best way to pre-treat stains is with wipes. Simply try to detect any odd stains that shouldn’t be on your pair of shorts and wipe them off with wipes. This is the first step.

Step #2 – Select the right detergent

The second step is to select the right detergent. In my cleaning, I’ve used regular washing soap, which you can basically find everywhere. However, you can use whatever detergent you’d like, as long as it smells good.

Although I’m writing this article, I’m not a detergent expert (not the least!) Therefore, I encourage you to check your shorts’ label to see if there’s any special detergent that’s recommended.

Step #3 – Wash in cold water

Now you should have a suitable detergent, which we’re just about to use. But before that, I want you to wash your shorts in cold/lukewarm water. Avoid washing them with hot water in all the steps of this cleaning process.

You want to wash the shorts in cold water to remove any dirt or any substance that you don’t want to mix in the sink.

Step #4 – Fill a basin or sink with cold water

You now want to fill a basin or sink with cold/lukewarm water. You want to avoid using hot water of any kind. It won’t do good do most Muay Thai shorts out there, so you want to avoid using them altogether.

Anyways, now that you have a sink full of lukewarm/cold water, it’s time we dive into the most important step.

Step #5 – Rinse the Shorts Thoroughly

The next step is to rinse the shorts thoroughly. Drown your Muay Thai shorts into the water and get them all soaked up in the detergent you have chosen.

In the video I filmed, my shorts smelled terrible. You must rinse the shorts to ensure all the moisture and stains transfer from the piece of clothing to the water. A properly used detergent or soap will aid you with that.

Get the shorts deep in the water and rinse them deep in the water. All the bad smell will soon disappear and you’ll be left with a sink full of dirt and odd-looking water.

Step #6 – Air Dry/Hang to Dry

The sixth and last step is to dry the shorts up. Now, you can go about it in two primary ways. The first way is to hang your Muay Thai shorts to dry, which you can do if you’re not in a hurry.

However, there’s another way you can use if you need the pair to be dry today. This way will be to air dry them. If that’s what you need, you want to soak all water from the piece of clothing before you actually air dry them. You can do that by squeezing the shorts until all water comes out.

Dry Your Shirts

I prefer owning more than a single pair of Muay Thai shorts and hanging them to dry after every training session. That way, I never run out of dry ones to use.

Final Words

Washing your Muay Thai shorts correctly will be the difference between keeping or ruining them in the long term. So if you want to avoid spending more money on buying an extra pair of shorts when yours get ruined, make sure to follow the steps I’ve listed in this article.

You can also watch the video in the introduction to see what that would look like. Hopefully, you’ve been able to understand everything I’ve discussed in this article, as I made sure to explain from experience and not from theory, which always works wonders.
